Ryan Busby, Program Director
Ryan grew up in New Hampshire skiing and hiking in the White Mountains. College took him to Bryant University in Rhode Island, where he studied Finance & Economics and was captain of the Track & Field team. After four years in corporate finance in Boston, he decided to embark on a new path and found his way to Maine Primitive Skills School as an eager apprentice in the spring of 2017. He arrived with an interest in foraging, re-wilding and becoming a modern hunter-gatherer. His enthusiasm for everything he learned that summer led him to pursue a career and life built around learning and teaching ancestral skills. Ryan joined forces with The Nature of Things in early 2019, and has begun building a program dedicated to his mission, enhancing 2nd Nature Academy's environmental curriculum and founding unique field trip and summer camp programs. Friction fire, movement, mushroom foraging, awareness skills, wild food preparations, and children’s nature education are particular areas of interest for Ryan as he continues his wilderness skills journey.
