After School: Spring Session B

  • Monday

Rocket Science: Aerospace Engineering Simulation (ages 10-14)

  • Dates: May 6 - 20
  • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 3 weeks
  • Cost: $65

Join us as we learn about aerospace engineering, and design a rocket that can reach the atmosphere and beyond. Using the game Kerbal Space Program, students will learn about key design principles, such as overall shape, when to disconnect sections, and how much fuel to take. Using what they’ve learned, students will split into teams to command their own missions to space. It actually is rocket science!

  • Tuesday

Creative LEGO Club (ages 6-9)

  • Dates: May 7 - 28
  • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 4 weeks
  • Cost: $90

No following instructions here! While our club time will be mostly student-directed, we will focus the builds on specific design themes each week. Each theme is meant to provide context for students to make some design considerations given a few constraints, while keeping to their creative vision. One week, we might ask students to create animals and their habitat if they lived on Mars. Another week, we might introduce an artist like M.C. Escher and ask students to create a Lego build inspired by his illusionist art work. Every session is sure to be a creative blast!

  • Wednesday

Blockify It! Animals and Mythical Creatures (ages 8-12)

  • Dates: May 8 - 29
    • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
    • Length: 4 weeks
    • Cost: $90

Have you ever seen a stone lion in front of a building or a gargoyle looking down from a roof and wanted to make your own for your Minecraft worlds? In this version of Blockify It!, students will look at mythical creatures and real animals, identify their key features, and recreate them in Minecraft!

  • Thursday

Scratch Simulation: Anthill (ages 8-10)

  • Dates: May 9 - 30
    • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
    • Length: 4 weeks
    • Cost: $90

Using Scratch, a programming language developed by MIT, our campers will learn and expand their programming skills by creating their own simulation. Specifically created to mirror the command structure of languages such as python and C, Scratch helps kids write their own code with a simple layout and techniques that can be easily grasped by both newcomers and veterans. In this class, students will create a simulation of an anthill to expand their knowledge of autonomous decision-making, cloning, and easily coding multiple sprites.

  • Friday

Minecraft Survival Build Challenge: The Block (ages 8-10)

  • Dates: May 10 - 31
    • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
    • Length: 4 weeks
    • Cost: $90

Calling all builders, miners, and deep divers - we need your Minecraft expertise. The goal is The Block - an enormous castle filled to the brim with treasure, feast halls, and everything a king needs to be the mightiest in the land. Band together with your fellow classmates to explore, mine, and complete this impressive, completely impractical, fantastic challenge! Attendees will work together on a Minecraft Survival Server as a single group to plan out their design, find a suitable build location, collect resources, and work around design challenges and problems that arise during construction.

Weekend Workshops

  • Saturday, March 9

Minecraft Creative Challenge: Ice Fortress Siege

  • Session A: 7-9 yrs | 1:00-3:00PM (2hrs)
  • Session B: 10-14 yrs | 4:00-6:00PM (2hrs)
  • Cost: $25

Calling all builders, planners and fighters! A massive Blaze outbreak has been sighted in Minecraft, and it's up to you to build defenses to keep them at bay! The only problem is that Blazes tend to light things on fire, so you'll have to build out of ice to keep things cool. Attendees will be using Minecraft Creative mode to build a fortress entirely out of ice, but be warned - after the allotted build time, a horde of Blazes will arrive to test your frozen defenses. Can you take the heat, or will your defenses melt like a hot knife through butter?

  • Saturday, April 6

Programming LEGO Mindstorms: Robot Arm

  • Session A: 7-9 yrs | 1:00-3:00PM (2hrs)
  • Session B: 10-14 yrs | 4:00-6:00PM (2hrs)
  • Cost: $25

This robotic arm might be made of Legos, but that shouldn't stop you from programming it to move, bend, and grab just like a real arm! Join us as we use the programming environment Labview to create and upload a program to control what our arm picks up - once uploaded, the arm can run any time you want it to, even without a computer!

  • Saturday, May 4

Minecraft Adventures: Temple Run

  • Session A: 7-9 yrs | 1:00-3:00PM (2hrs)
  • Session B: 10-14 yrs | 4:00-6:00PM (2hrs)
  • Cost: $25

Everyone knows the scenes where an explorer finds some ancient artifact, picks it up, and then has to run for their life as the temple around them begins to spring traps and fall apart around them. Join us as we recreate this iconic experience in Minecraft, where attendees will build their own temple run, complete with puzzles and traps. Can you escape the designs of your fellow builders?
