Summer Art Camps 2017



  • Ages 5-7

Backyard Canvas

  • Week: July 5 – 7
  • (3 day holiday week)
  • Half Day (morning): 9am-12pm

This is a Painted Turtle STEAM camp! (Science + Engineering + Art)

During this science discovery camp for aspiring artists, we will explore the woods high and low to examine different kinds of flora and fauna. Students will keep sketches and notes of their observations and then come back to the art room to really get messy! Watercolors, printmaking, drawing, simple 3-D art will be covered.

Tall Tales Art Adventure

  • Week: July 5 – 7
  • (3 day holiday week)
  • Half Day (afternoon): 1pm-4pm

In this adventurous camp, students will explore the art of storytelling then create their own illustrations and short drama productions. Basic drawing techniques of fantasy creatures, watercolor techniques, puppets, and theatrical play will fill our afternoon!


  • Ages 7-9

Nature Camp for Beginner 3D Artists

  • Week: July 17 – 21
  • Full Day: 9am-4pm

This is a Painted Turtle STEAM camp! (Engineering + Art)

Let's go outside and make something big or small, heavy or light! We will build forts and dwellings, decorate colorful flags and dream catchers, and bind trees with color. Let’s change the way we view the natural world. This class is for kids who like to build and create things their own way.

This camp includes a one-hour lunch and recess break. Campers are responsible for providing their own packed lunches.


  • Ages 8-12

Wreck This Canvas

  • Week: July 31 – August 4
  • Half Day (morning): 9am-12pm

Let go of your artistic inhibitions and find your true creative spirit in this mixed media class. You will be tearing down your own artistic box, to be free to find new techniques and mediums to apply to your personal artwork and outlook on life. This class is for the adventurous and risk takers at heart. Remember if you shoot for the moon you will end up in the stars!

Get Wired

  • Week: July 31 – August 4
  • Half Day (afternoon): 1pm-4pm

Enjoy working with your hands? This class will have you busy using pliers and wires as you learn the art of wire wrapping. We will be embellishing jewelry with handmade pendants from sea glass and found objects. There will be time to create other wire crafts as well, such as a miniature tree of life, an ocean decoration, and rings.


Drawing en Plein Air

  • Week: August 21 – 25
  • Half Day (morning): 9am-12pm

This is a Painted Turtle STEAM camp! (Science + Art)

Students wishing to train their eye and develop their skill in drawing will appreciate the small class size for ultimate attention. We will be learning how to draw landscapes and 3D objects like horses and chickens from our campus farm, as well as how to use vanishing points. Campers will be outside drawing from the natural world and learn how to pay attention to details as well as utilize atmospheric perspective.

Kumihimo Woven Crafts

  • Week: August 21 – 25
  • Half Day (afternoon): 1pm-4pm

Are you ready to take the friendship bracelet to the next level? In this camp, we will be focusing on the Zen of weaving and learn multiple forms for jewelry wraps and crafts. We will be weaving belts, knitting toy snakes, and making dream catcher earrings. We will also find time for spider-weaving bracelets and learning Kumihimo for necklace making. And of course, you can't leave without making a rug from old t-shirts!


  • Ages 9-12

Paper Fix

  • Week: July 24 – 28
  • Half Day (morning): 9am-12pm

Create stunning 2D relief designs from rolled, folded, and cut strips of colorful paper. In this camp, we will learn how to roll and pinch the basic paper shapes to make a practice set of earrings. Once the basics are down, we will roll on to create more elaborate designs of your choice.

Mystery Box Challenge

  • Week: July 24 – 28
  • Half Day (afternoon): 1pm-4pm

This is a Painted Turtle STEAM camp! (Engineering + Art + Mathematics)

Wanted: Tinkerers and 21st Century Thinkers! In this problem-based project camp, every activity is up to you and your imagination. Your materials? A mystery. You will be allowed to work as a team to race the clock as you solve each box's challenge. This camp will encourage understanding of design sketches, team building, and presentation skills.


  • Ages 10-14

Alternative Art for the Outdoors Enthusiast

  • Week: July 10 - 14
  • Full Day: 9am-4pm

This is a Painted Turtle STEAM camp! (Science + Engineering + Art)

Andy Goldsworthy, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and Michael Grab's Gravity Glue: These environmental artists and their projects will be our inspiration when we head outside this summer! We will bring color to the woods by creating artful installations and decorative banners. Students will create intrigue for visitors of the woods by constructing grand formations from found objects. Keep in mind the teacher is the assistant to the artists during this class.

This camp includes a one-hour lunch and recess break. Campers are responsible for providing their own packed lunches.

MAGIC: The Gathering and Beyond (Concept Art and Game Design)

  • Week: August 7 – 11
  • Full Day: 9am-4pm

Learn how to create the illustrations and paintings of your favorite cards, from Bella Sara to MAGIC: The Gathering. Design new cards to expand your deck, and trade with friends. Figure and landscape drawing skills will be covered, and Sharpies, colored pencils, and watercolors will be our friends in this camp! Feel free to bring your decks to play during break; trading card enthusiasts of all styles are welcome! The early part of our days will be dedicated to concept art. Afternoon sessions will be about designing our own functional card games.

This camp includes a one-hour lunch and recess break. Campers are responsible for providing their own packed lunches.

Mindful Drawing & Painting Techniques

  • Week: August 14 – 18
  • Half Day (morning): 9am-12pm

Relax and unwind during this summer session of mindful drawing. We will let our creative juices flow 100% uninhibited while learning calming activities such as Zentangles, Rangoli designs, Mandalas and Automatic Doodling. These are creative prompts for larger illustrations and paintings we will complete.

Just Bead It!

  • Week: August 14 – 18
  • Half Day (afternoon): 1pm-4pm

All things beads in this camp! We will enjoy making crafts with beads and learn simple to complex beaded jewelry and craft designs. Projects include: key chains, earrings, elegant double strand necklaces, and woven beaded bracelets. This camp is for you if you are interested in making beaded crafts!

    We offer both full day and half day camps, depending on the week. All of our camps are weeklong (M-F), with the exception of the 4th of July holiday week (W-F). Two half day camps within the same week may be combined for the same price as one full day camp.
    What to bring: All Painted Turtle campers are required to bring their own snacks, a refillable water bottle, and bug spray. If staying for a full day, campers must also bring a packed lunch. Campers will be provided outdoor activity breaks, snack break(s), and, in the case of full day, a lunch break.


Registration Fee & Forms

A once-annual, non-refundable $25.00 registration fee is due at the time of registration. Discounts do not apply to the registration fee. To register, all campers must submit the following paperwork:

  • Registration form
  • Signed Camper Conduct Agreement (pg. 3 of Registration Form)
  • Physician’s Well-child Physical Form (from pediatrician)
  • Current immunization records (from pediatrician)

All camps are subject to cancellation, should a minimum enrollment not be met. In the event of a cancellation, participants will be informed and payment will be refunded.

Before/After Care

  • Times: 7:30am-9:00am / 4:00-6:00pm
  • Pricing: $70 additional per week

Discounts do not apply to before/after care.


  • Summer 2017 Discounts & Credits

Early registration: Register and PAY IN FULL for 1 or more weeks of a full day Painted Turtle art camp (which includes an AM & PM session in the same week) by May 5, 2017 and receive 5% off of camp rates. Any additional weeks added after May 5th are not subject to the discount. This discount is not to be combined with any other discount and only applies to a summer of 2017 Painted Turtle Camp.

Sibling Discount: If enrolling 2 or more siblings in any full day Painted Turtle art camp(s) (which includes an AM & PM session in the same week), full price must be paid for the 1st child and a 5% discount per additional child may be applied for up to 2 siblings thereafter for a camp of equal or lesser value. This discount is not to be combined with any other discount and only applies to a summer of 2017 Enrichment Center Camp.

Refer-a-New-Friend Credit: For each new friend you refer to a 2017 Enrichment Center Summer Camp (Brainwave or Painted Turtle) who enrolls, you will receive a credit of $30 off of a future Enrichment Center program of your choosing. This credit only applies to referrals who have not previously participated in any of The Enrichment Center/The Painted Turtle's programs. This credit expires after one calendar year from date of referral.
