Youth Classes: Fall 2018

Pre-registration is required for all course content, including single workshop days. If you are a returning client who has taken a course in the same calendar year (2018) and have therefore already filled out waiver forms, only the registration form is required.



  • Session A (September - October)

MONDAY: Science & Art Exploration (Grades K-2; 6+ years)

  • Dates: Sept. 17 - Oct. 22 (No class on Oct. 8)
  • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 5 weeks
  • Cost: $110 (includes material fee)

Explore science with art this fall using fun, slightly messy, and inquisitive projects! Each week will introduce a new topic with a new hypothesis. We will embark on a creative learning journey as we discover simple machines, balance and sculpture, color theory, scientific illustration and field studies, and paint with pendulums using the force of gravity!


TUESDAY: Cardboard Creative Designs: Fairytales (Grades 1-3)

  • Dates: Sept. 18 - Oct. 23
  • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 6 weeks
  • Full-Session Cost: $140 (includes material fee)

Students will be transported to a fantasy world where they will become characters in a story that they write and perform! We will learn how to create a story, develop characters, make costumes and props from cardboard, and project our voices! Any short performances will be filmed and emailed to families to watch at home.


WEDNESDAY: Duct Tape Design (Grades 4-7)

  • Dates: Sept. 26 - Oct. 24 (No class on Oct. 17)

Fashion and accessory design provide a constant battleground for function vs. form. In this intermediate class, we will be utilizing common design strategies to craft uncommon projects from flip wallets to, yes, footwear! This class will be a blast as it balances zany and uncanny creativity with more structured projects for those who like adding a little color to their everyday style.


THURSDAY: Fall Drawing & Cartooning (Grades 2-5)

  • Dates: Sept. 20 - Oct. 25
  • Times: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 6 weeks
  • Cost: $135 (includes material fee)

Learn how to draw from life and then transform it into a cartoon. Students will enjoy nature walks to the animal barn on The Nature of Things campus, and learn how take gesture drawings of our resident goats, cows, and chickens, as well as learn how to develop a gesture drawing into a finished picture. Shading techniques and realism are emphasized on these days. Once we have our solid understanding of our barnyard drawings, we will turn them into cartoon characters and create comic strips! Independent projects can be worked on if students prefer drawing the human form or fantasy form.


FRIDAY: Painted Turtle Hollywood: Green Screen (Grades 3-7)

  • Dates: Sept. 21 - Oct. 26
  • Times: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 6 weeks
  • Cost: $135 (includes material fee)

Put on your own production with any background you want! In this class, technology and art unite to combine character design with green screen technology. Our classes will be split into three mini-challenges where students are given a prompt to create and film a scene, proceeding to edit with Adobe Premier in the next class. Projects will be saved on YouTube to share with families, however students are encouraged to bring in flash drives to save personal copies for home.

MONDAY: Hand Lettering & Canvas Painting (Grades 3-8; 9+ years)

  • Dates: Nov. 26 - Dec. 17
  • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 4 weeks
  • Cost: $90 (includes material fee)

Hand lettering is the art of drawing letters! This class will focus on using different lettering techniques and embellishments to create the simplest to most sophisticated signs and cards, while learning ways to enhance school projects. Students will enjoy learning different letter forms from bubble letters to faux calligraphy. Signs will be painted on canvas and can be a great family artwork or given as a gift.


TUESDAY: Painting & Drawing Fantasy Art (Grades 5-8)

  • Dates: Nov. 27 - Dec. 18
  • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 4 weeks
  • Cost: $90 (includes material fee)

This class explores the fantasy realm of creatures from dragons and gryphons to elves and centaurs. We will learn how to draw our characters using pencil, define our forms with shadows and highlights using charcoal, and finally make a canvas painting of our favorite creature. This class will cover drawing and painting techniques.


WEDNESDAY: Polymer Clay Crafts (Grades 2-6)

  • Dates: Nov. 28 - Dec. 19 (No class on Dec. 5)
  • Times: 4:00 - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 3 weeks
  • Cost: $65 (includes material fee)

This class will be all about crafting and sculpting miniatures out of fimo clay. Students will have the freedom to their choose subjects, while being taught how to make clip-on or regular dangly earrings, pencil toppers, and moveable miniature toy characters.


THURSDAY: Basic Electric Art (Grades 1-3)

  • Dates: Nov. 29 - Dec. 20
  • Times: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
  • Length: 4 weeks
  • Cost: $90 (includes material fee)

This class will be built half on technical skills and half on creative thinking! Using circuit stickers and LED lights, students will gain an introduction to interactive art. First, we will learn about basic electric circuits and incorporate LED lights to enhance our artwork.


FRIDAY: World Holidays Art Explorations (Grades K-2; 6+ years)

  • Dates: Nov. 30 - Dec. 21
  • Times: 4:00 PM- 5:30 PM
  • Length: 4 weeks
  • Cost: $90 (includes material fee)

Let's travel the world together to learn about how different cultures celebrate winter holidays. From Kwanzaa, a harvest celebration honoring African heritage, to Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, we will make arts and crafts projects to reflect these traditions.

To register, all participants must submit the following paperwork:

All courses are subject to cancellation, should a minimum enrollment not be met. There are no refunds or reductions once a participant is registered for any reason, unless The Painted Turtle Art Studio cancels a course, whereupon all participants will be informed in advance and payment will be refunded.

  • Fall 2018 Discounts & Credits

Sibling Discount: If enrolling 2 or more siblings during the same session, full price must be paid for the 1st child and a 5% discount per additional child may be applied for up to 2 siblings thereafter. This discount is not to combined with the 2nd Nature Academy After School Discount. This discount only applies to after school programs. This discount does not apply to special events.

2nd Nature Academy After School Discount: If student is signed up for 2nd Nature Academy After School program on the day of the corresponding class, they will receive 50% off above prices. Costs cover registration, all materials, and facility rental time. This discount is not to combined with the Sibling Discount. This discount only applies to after school programs. This discount does not apply to special events.

Refer-a-New-Friend Discount: For each new friend who registers for the same course that your child is registered for, you are eligible to receive 10% off of the cost of that course for up to a total of 10 friend referrals. This discount only applies to referrals who have not previously participated in any of The Enrichment Center/The Painted Turtle's programs. This discount may not be combined with any other discounts.
