Custodian (Evening/Night Shift)

About the Role

The Nature of Things, LLC seeks a full-time custodian to fulfill cleaning and maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming carpets, cleaning, and restocking restrooms on a small private school campus (2nd Nature Academy) before moving to a secondary restaurant location (Rambling House Food & Gathering). Work week is Tuesday-Saturday. Work hours must begin in the late afternoon/early evening and wrap up in the early morning hours after an 8-hour shift + 30-minute break, with flexibility. Must have reliable transportation to move between locations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.

  • Operate large cleaning equipment and assist with floor maintenance and restoration as needed.

  • Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies including floor scrubber and buffer.

  • Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.

  • Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff.

  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

  • Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on requirements.

  • Performs minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.

  • May assist or perform snow removal to keep egresses clear.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Provide high level customer service for school events and community activities including set-up/clean-up.

  • Perform special cleaning and assist with renovation projects.


Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.

  • Ensure proper use, identification, mixing and application of chemicals, including the requirements and use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

  • Monitor and inspect building facility for safety and cleanliness.

  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
